1) How long have you worked at ITIC
I have worked at ITIC for two years and four months.
2) How do you balance claims handling with your other roles and responsibilities?
Recently, I’ve found breaking things down into micro tasks helps. Sometimes I’ll do a first draft, move onto something else and then come back and rework things with a clearer mind. Starting somewhere is better than going nowhere and by breaking things down into smaller tasks I’m able to manage my day better.
3) What is the biggest challenge when it comes to claims?
My biggest hurdle is actually understanding the claims because no two ITIC claims are the same . With the help of our in house claims team, I am learning what is needed for different types of claims..
4) What is the most memorable claim you have handled?
My favourite claim is probably the first one I ever handled; it was the realisation that I can do something to help. I was given the opportunity to handle a debt collection of nearly US$600,000 of outstanding commission. I was determined to get it back and through lots (and lots) of persistent emails and the help from an external lawyer, we managed to recover the full debt.
5) What is your favourite part of dealing with a claim?
My favourite part of dealing with claims is probably the opening of a claim, and starting to look after them. I love the idea that I am able to help. It’s amazing how one tiny mistake can become so costly. It’s nice to remind the members that they are not in this alone, and to (hopefully) provide some hope. Obviously, closing a claim is very nice too – especially when there has been a good resolution..
6) What is your least favourite part of claims handling?
My least favourite part is probably how much time it takes to go through everything properly. Although I try to split it into smaller parts, it still takes a long time because I want to ensure our members are receiving the best support with thorough research.
7) Any ambitions or future goals still to achieve?
Sipping Aperol Spritz on a beach after going sailing would be lovely. Retiring at 30 would be a dream and generally being able to enjoy the outside as much as possible is always my goal.
8) What is your favourite saying
I love to say ‘Live, Laugh, Love’, how iconic. But something I say far too much in my personal life is ‘what is the worst that can happen?’
9) What are your hobbies and favourite past times?
I love to cook.. I cannot say I am the best cook (definitely not the icon Gordon Ramsay), but I am trying to make concoctions which I hope will taste nice.
10) What is your favourite food?
I really enjoy ham and cheese croissants. Or my mum’s lasagne, simply superior.
11) What is your favourite film?
Shrek 2, nothing else needs to be said.
12) What is the last book you read or music you downloaded?
Purely depends on the vibes. Concentration mode? Smooth brown noise – don’t ask. Everything mode? Chappel Roan. But I have downloaded all of Pitbull recently, manifesting getting tickets and being able to wear a bald cap and dancing to Mr Worldwide.
I also have very recently started reading ‘Four Thousand Weeks’ by Oliver Burkeman. It’s a time management book introducing the concept that your time is yours, you’ll miss out on things every day, so make the most of all that you can do. It’s your life so choose how you spend your time.
13) Any pet hates?
Originally, my list was too long. But if I had to pick a top pet hate, slow walkers and people who stop randomly in the middle of the footpath. Please don’t.
14) If you weren’t working at ITIC, what would you be doing?
I’d probably be a Seasonaire, teaching water sports in the summer, and skiing all winter. Sunglass tan lines all year round. That sounds dreamy.
