Maria Michael – Trainee Account Executive

Maria joined ITIC in June 2024 as a Trainee Account Executive, following an internship with the company in 2022. She holds a Master’s in Maritime Safety and Security Management from City, University of London, and a Bachelor’s in Maritime Business (Law) from the University of Plymouth. Maria is responsible for members across Spain, Morocco, Canada and areas of the UK, including the South East, North West, Kent and is currently preparing for the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers exams. She speaks English, Greek, and Russian fluently and is conversational in Italian.

A draft dilemma

A ship was proceeding to the discharge port. The agent at the discharge port advised the shipper that the maximum draft was 40ft. As this ship was just under 41ft it made an interim call to unload some cargo.

A ship agent was appointed by the owners of a detained ship to arrange an inspection at a port. The port authority advised that the required inspection form and fee had to be submitted simultaneously; no inspection could proceed if either element was missing.
