New building supervision can often be an extension of the services provided by a ship manager. Some supervisors, however, operate independently, incorporating other supervisory services such as ship repairs or conversions.

ITIC covers both companies and individuals acting in a supervisory capacity on behalf of ship owners, while their ship is in a shipyard.

There is currently no standard form of contract for new building supervision. ITIC can help reduce your exposure by suggesting contracts based on our extensive experience within this specialist aspect of the marine industry.

Owners will occasionally bring claims for negligence against new building supervisors in order to avoid buying the ship. ITIC provides expert defence and support against such claims but, more prudently, can also help you minimise the likelihood of their occurring in the first place.
